what we promote

Academic libraries and library networks in the state of Lower Saxony can apply for the funding of projects dealing with long-term digital archiving as well as the development of innovative methods and procedures for digital text recognition of historical and contemporary documents and printed materials.

The funding program supports academic libraries in their role as research infrastructure, with a view to implementing and testing innovative methods and procedures of digital text recognition of historical and contemporary documents and printed materials as well as long-term digital archiving.

Please read the "Information for Applicants" carefully and familiarize yourself with the application conditions.

submit application
Submit your application via Volkswagen Foundation's new funding portal from mid-January 2025. The corresponding link will be provided here.
    3
    review and decision
    The review process is organized by the Volkswagen Foundation. Experts from the fields of digitality and academic libraries assess the eligibility of the applications for funding. The Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and Culture decides on the applications based on recommendations put forward by the review panel.
