Academic libraries and library networks in the state of Lower Saxony can apply for the funding of projects dealing with long-term digital archiving as well as the development of innovative methods and procedures for digital text recognition of historical and contemporary documents and printed materials.
The funding program supports academic libraries in their role as research infrastructure, with a view to implementing and testing innovative methods and procedures of digital text recognition of historical and contemporary documents and printed materials as well as long-term digital archiving.

I. Innovative approaches to the digitalization of historical and contemporary documents and printed matter
Academic libraries can apply for the funding of projects dealing with new approaches to the digitalization of contemporary and historical documents and printed materials for the purpose of low-threshold access and handling for researchers and the interested public – possibly in cooperation with practice partners.
II. Long-term digital archiving
Academic libraries can apply for the funding of accompanying innovative projects on long-term digital archiving. These projects are to be carried out within the framework of the state license for long-term digital archiving developed under the leadership of the German National Library of Science and Technology.
